Ljubljana City Council Passes 2026 Public Transport Budget Allocation, Route Adjustments Set for October Start
The 8 July vote directs €4.2 million from the municipal operating budget to extend three bus lines serving the Bežigrad and Vič districts, with timetable changes taking effect on 1 October.

The Ljubljana City Council on 8 July approved the 2026 transport budget line that funds extended service on lines 6, 11 and 18. The measure passed by a 22-11 margin and applies to all 295,000 residents who rely on city buses for work or school travel.
The decision follows the March 2026 expiry of the previous five-year service contract with Ljubljanski potniški promet. Council records show passenger numbers on those three routes rose 14 percent between 2023 and 2025, prompting the allocation in the current fiscal year.
Changes for daily travel
Residents in Bežigrad will gain a new evening loop on line 6 that runs until 23:45 on weekdays. Vič households will see line 11 buses stop at four additional points along Cesta na Brdo beginning in October. The city transport department projects average wait times on these corridors will drop from 18 minutes to 12 minutes during peak hours.
Parking enforcement hours in the affected zones remain unchanged at present. City documents state that any adjustment to on-street parking fees linked to the new routes will be announced separately after the September public consultation.
Next implementation steps
Vehicle procurement notices are scheduled to appear in the official gazette by 25 July. Drivers and dispatch staff will receive updated route maps during August training sessions. The first printed timetables are due for distribution at 42 city bus stops on 15 September.
Further council sessions in September will review ridership data collected during the first month of operation. Any required timetable tweaks must be approved before the winter schedule takes effect on 1 December.
